Vice President Constantino Chiwenga will be the guest of honour at the 12th Buy Zimbabwe Annual Awards scheduled for this Friday the 31st of March in Harare. The awards will be held at the Andy Miller Hall, Zimbabwe Agricultural Society Exhibition Park, beginning from 6:30 pm.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Sekai Nzenza, and the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Dr. Anxious Masuka, senior government officials and captains of industry and commerce will also attend the glittering ceremony.
Speaking to Great Dyke News 24, Buy Zimbabwe General Manager, Alois Burutsa said the awards are meant to recognize and appreciate Buy Zimbabwe members who have supported the Buy Zimbabwe movement.
“The awards are important because they recognise organisations and companies that are supporting local manufacturing, creating jobs, wealth and contributing to the economic development of the nation as well as saving available foreign currency for pressing needs.
“This will also help to encourage other companies to not only become Buy Zimbabwe members but to also contribute to the development of our economy by supporting other local companies.” said the Buy Zimbabwe General Manager.
Burutsa also gave a rundown of some of the categories up for grabs at this year’s awards.
“Some of the categories to expect this year includes the Manufacturer of the Year, Mining Company of the Year, Farmers Development Award, SME Development Award, Local Procurement Award, and also we have the Champion Award which is presented to an individual who has shown exceptional leadership in driving their organisation in supporting production and consumption of local goods and services.
“But of course the big one is the Company of the Year which goes to a company that has supported the Buy Zimbabwe initiative throughout the year.” he said.
Last year Buy Zimbabwe held its 11th Annual Awards on the 8th of April at the Rainbow Towers Hotel, Harare where Schweppes’ Mazoe crush won the Product of the Year in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods category, while National Foods was adjudged to be the Company of the Year
