Workers Union Questions Government’s Commitment To Addressing Civil Servants’ Remuneration

A union representing workers in Zimbabwe has expressed doubt over the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of civil servants remuneration.

The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, through its representative Dr Takavafira Zhou, has accused the labour ministry of giving mixed signals by making promises in the media and not delivering on them in reality.

According to Zhou, the ministry needs to prioritize the tripartite negotiating forum, which brings together representatives from the government, labour unions, and employers, and act on its outcomes. Despite the government’s assurances to the contrary, civil servants in Zimbabwe continue to struggle with low salaries, inadequate benefits, and poor working conditions.
