The Zimbabwe Miners Federation says it is intensifying efforts to transform the country’s mining sector into one grounded in clean source funding and responsible practices that protect people, livestock and the environment.
The federation emphasized that the future of Zimbabwe’s mining industry lies in eliminating illicit financing and ensuring that operations meet both local regulations and global standards on ethical sourcing.
ZMF Midlands Chairman, Makumba Nyenje said the push is aimed at promoting a mining ecosystem that prioritises safety, environmental stewardship and accountability, particularly within the artisanal and small-scale sector, which plays a dominant role in gold production.
By encouraging miners to adopt responsible methods, the federation hopes to reduce environmental degradation, improve working conditions and safeguard surrounding communities whose livelihoods are often affected by mining activities.
The organisation also stressed that clean funding structures are critical in restoring confidence in Zimbabwe’s mineral sector, as global markets increasingly demand traceability and transparency in supply chains.
ZMF says ongoing engagement with stakeholders, including government and industry players, will be key in ensuring that mining contributes sustainably to economic growth while protecting natural resources for future generations.
