The Government has heightened public health surveillance following an outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China.
Health and Child Care Deputy Minister, Sleiman Timios Kwidini, announced intensified monitoring at airports and borders as travel increases ahead of the Chinese New Year.
āWeāve enhanced screening at entry points and await WHO guidance on prevention. Citizens must remain vigilant, especially during this rainy season when other diseases like cholera and typhoid are prevalent,ā said Kwidini.
HMPV, a respiratory virus similar to influenza, poses risks to children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. There is no vaccine, and treatment focuses on symptom management.
