Buy Zimbabwe has urged Zimbabweans to support local businesses by buying local goods saying this will create pride, wealth and jobs for Zimbabweans during and after the lockdown.

In a statement seen by GreatDykeNews24, Buy Zimbabwe urged citizens to adopt a sustainable consumerism approach to ensure the support of local brands.

“We need to pay much attention to the fact that this virus has obviously disrupted the flow of business and after the lockdown, if much is not done to prop up the economic ecosystem of local companies, we may face a greater array of challenges that affect us as Zimbabweans.

“It is therefore our mandate and obligation as Zimbabweans to push for the local production of quality goods and services.

“Furthermore, we ought to adopt a sustainable consumerism approach to ensure that we support our own local brands,” reads the statement.

“We also give a call to action for local companies to join Buy Zimbabwe in order to be a part of this movement that seeks to create an environment that supports and facilitate the growth of local companies and our economy at large.”

The Buy Zimbabwe call for action comes hot on the heels of an agreement to freeze the prices of basic commoditied reached following a multi-sectoral meeting held between the government and Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe, Bakers Association of Zimbabwe and the Confederation of Zimbabwean Retailers.

The price freeze follows the recent increase in prices of basic goods, including bread, super-refined maize meal, cooking oil, flour and sugar.
