The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services in Zvishavane say they have set up an isolation cell to cater for inmates and newcomers who are showing symptoms of the COVID-19 so as to prevent the spread of the pandemic amongst the inmates.
Speaking to Great Dyke news, Zvishavane Rehabilitation and Principal Correctional Officer Luckson Makovere said they carry out temperature checks on new inmates, as well as search for their travel history before allowing them to mingle with other prisoners.
Zimbabwe is among other countries that continue to record a rise in COVID-19 cases, and the government is taking all measures necessary to curb the spread of the virus especially in possible hotspots such as prisons.
Zimbabwean statistics are now at 320 confirmed cases after 6 new cases were recorded; the number of recoveries has risen to 49 and the number of active cases is 267.
