Ignatius Tazvivinga (65), a village head from Kadoma under Chief Mupamombe, appeared before the Kadoma Magistrates’ Court on charges of fraud related to illegal land sales. Tazvivinga is accused of selling land belonging to the Kadoma City Council, falsely claiming that part of Lot Railway 7 fell under the Mupamombe clan’s jurisdiction.

Desperate land seekers were reportedly drawn to Tazvivinga’s offer, paying him a minimum of USD 250, which he described as a “Chief’s token of appreciation.” The buyers were issued affidavits as proof of purchase and proceeded to construct homes on the allocated plots.

However, on February 1, 2024, the Kadoma City Council reported the illegal settlers to the CID law enforcement. Following the report, Tazvivinga was arrested after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for his actions.

The accused has been remanded in custody, with the case set to continue on October 8, 2024.
