Leipzig Zoo Euthanizes Healthy Antelopes for Population Control.

The Leipzig Zoo in Germany has euthanized four healthy lechwe antelopes, citing population control as the reason. The animals were shot on Friday morning with five precision shots.

The zoo had attempted to relocate them through the European Ex-situ Program but was unsuccessful. The decision was approved by an ethics commission. The antelope carcasses were subsequently fed to other animals at the zoo.

This follows a similar incident in Australia and other zoos where euthanasia has been carried out for population or welfare reasons.
