A violent attack in Village Ngwegwe under Chief Nemangwe has left a 59-year-old man fighting for his life, after three brothers allegedly took turns to assault him and his wife in a brutal late-night attack.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the suspects—Moven Chemusonde (24), Malvin Chemusonde (19), and Misheba Chemusonde (18)—stormed the home of their neighbor, Agreement Sibanda, at around 11 PM on February 12, 2025. Armed with logs, they ordered Sibanda to come out of his house, threatening to set it ablaze if he refused.
Fearing for his life, Sibanda stepped outside, only to be set upon by the three assailants, who mercilessly beat him with logs. His wife, Sarah Hlanganiso, rushed to his defense but was also attacked, forcing her to flee for her life as her husband bore the full force of the assault.
The savage beating continued until Sibanda collapsed, unconscious and motionless. Believing they had finished their grisly task, the trio fled, leaving their victim for dead.
Police swiftly responded to the scene and transported the badly injured Sibanda to Gokwe South District Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The Chemusonde brothers were arrested soon after and are now assisting the police with investigations.
Authorities have condemned the attack, urging communities to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence.
