A lobola negotiation turned deadly in Madzvaruse Village under Chief Mazhetese after a middleman, known as Munyai, was brutally attacked and killed for allegedly bringing an “insulting” bride price of just US$30.
The shocking incident occurred on February 11 when the suspect, whose name is yet to be released, and his accomplices—who are still on the run—allegedly set upon the middleman in a fit of rage. According to sources, the victim had been sent to deliver the initial bride price payment for the suspect’s daughter, but the amount was deemed offensive by the family, leading to a violent assault.
The middleman succumbed to his injuries, and police swiftly moved in, arresting the main suspect while launching a manhunt for his accomplices.
Authorities have urged communities to resolve disputes peacefully, warning that cultural disagreements should never escalate to violence.
