A night of drinking at a Gweru cocktail bar ended in tragedy after a 26-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in the neck while trying to break up a fight between her friend and another patron.
The incident occurred at Flames Cocktail Bar at Coburn 10 Business Centre around 10pm on 8 November 2025, according to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
The now-deceased, Aisha Chiyangwa, was drinking with friends when she reportedly intervened in a misunderstanding involving her friend and a male beer drinker. In the chaos that followed, she was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a sharp object, sustaining a deep cut and bleeding heavily.
A well-wisher rushed Chiyangwa to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where she sadly died shortly after admission.
Police have since arrested a suspect identified as Patson Chitifa of Mkoba 10, Gweru, who is now in custody as investigations continue. He is expected to appear in court soon facing a murder charge.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to exercise restraint and find peaceful ways to resolve disputes, describing the case as “another sad reminder” of the dangers of violence.
