Market access lobby company Buy Zimbabwe says that the organisation and its partners have started working on training to introduce content rating process.

Speaking to Great Dyke News 24, Buy Zimbabwe chairman, Munyaradzi Hwengwere said the collaboration between Buy Zimbabwe and its partners will help to facilitate local content rating training for local producers.

“Buy Zimbabwe has entered into relationships with both Standard Association Zimbabwe (SAZ) and Quality Management Zimbabwe (QMZ) to start local content rating training so that the programme is credible and transparent. That training is already done so what is left is for the trainers to access the industry to make sure that they are aware of this development,” he said.

Hwengwere noted that a basic framework for content rating has been put in place while some value chains have deepened their local content component.

“There is a basic framework that has been put and established by Buy Zimbabwe, and we have established gaps to say that products in Zimbabwe have generally increased their local content, depending on some sectors rating, but we are still to formalise.

“The framework is there and the policy is there but, the actual implementation has not yet been done,” he added.

The Buy Zimbabwe chairman urged consumers to consider the impact of their purchases as locally made products create jobs.

“When you buy a product with a Buy Zimbabwe insignia, then know you’re buying something you made, or your sister or family have made, and you’re helping them protect and create jobs. By buying these products, you’re putting money into your own pocket,” he said.

He also underscored the significance of consumer support in driving the Buy Zimbabwe movement, which aims to promote local production and consumption aligning with the broader national agenda of fostering economic growth and job creation..

Buy Zimbabwe’s mission includes promoting the production and consumption of locally made products , instilling confidence in local markets, and recognizing organisations that meet specific local content criteria, as well as effectively communicating the essence of the Buy Zimbabwe insignia.
