The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has denied allegations that its youth were responsible for the violent attack on the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party in Chinhoyi.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, the CCC’s deputy spokesperson, Ostallos Siziba, stated that it was, in fact, the Douglas Mwonzora-led party that attacked them.
However, the MDC presidential spokesperson, Lloyd Damba, refuted the claims made by the CCC, alleging that about 10 of their youth had attacked the MDC office in Chinhoyi, claiming ownership of the premises. He also dismissed rumours that the MDC had transported people to the area to cause violence.
According to reports, the clash between the CCC and MDC activists in Chinhoyi was over control of a party office in the town. The incident resulted in several injuries due to the physical confrontation that ensued.
The situation remains tense in Chinhoyi, with both parties blaming each other for the violence. The authorities are investigating the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice.
