The mining community in Great Dyke has voiced support for the government’s initiative to enhance safety measures in small-scale mining operations. However, they stress the need for time to train longstanding workers to meet the new requirements.
Anderson Tsikira, Chairperson of the Miners Association in Mberengwa, highlighted the importance of having qualified mining engineers as mine managers for enhanced safety. He emphasized the significance of hiring skilled individuals capable of ensuring miners’ well-being rather than unqualified personnel.
Zvishavane-Mberengwa Miners Association Chairperson emphasized the value of experience and the need to train those already in the positions.
Last month Mines and Mining Development Minister Zhemu Soda said a qualified Mining Engineer is mandatory for all mines including the Small-scale mining industry.
