Accurate Mpofu, a resident of Lower Gweru, has been found guilty of culpable homicide by the High Court sitting in Gweru. The conviction follows a tragic incident that occurred on December 8, 2021, when Mpofu was just 17 years old.
According to court proceedings, Mpofu was involved in a heated argument with the now deceased, a 21-year-old, during a soccer match in Magwizi Village, Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru. The altercation was initially subdued by a friend, but tensions flared up again later that evening. After the match, the friend dropped the deceased off at Mpofu’s home, where another confrontation ensued.
During this final argument, Mpofu fatally stabbed the deceased once below the collarbone with a knife. The severity of the injury led to the victim’s death. A police report was promptly filed, resulting in Mpofu’s arrest.
In court, Mpofu was sentenced to five years in prison. However, two years of the sentence were suspended for a period of five years, meaning he will serve an effective three years behind bars.
