Health Ministry Urges Vigilance as More than 100 Snake Bite Cases Reported

The Ministry urging the public to be mindful of the potential risks associated with snake bites and take proactive measures to ensure their safety during outdoor endeavors.

In a recent Disease Surveillance Report released by the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe, the week ending February 18, 2024, brought a notable decrease in snake bite cases, recording 141 incidents with no reported fatalities. The cumulative figures for snake bites now total 1,042 cases, accompanied by seven recorded deaths.

While the decrease in reported cases is a positive development, the Ministry of Health remains vigilant and underscores the importance of public awareness regarding the potential risks associated with snake bites. In an advisory addressed to the public, the Ministry urges individuals to be proactive in taking measures to ensure their safety during outdoor activities.

The cautionary advisory emphasizes the need for outdoor enthusiasts to be mindful of the ongoing risk, despite the recent reduction in cases. Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health encourages the public to exercise caution and adopt preventative measures when engaging in outdoor endeavors where encounters with snakes are possible.
