Norman Mapeza has resigned as FC Platinum coach with immediate effect and the club has since appointed Lizwe Sweswe as interim technical bench boss.
Mapeza’s sudden departure comes just days before the reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions take on Mozambique’s UD Songo in the first leg of the Total Caf Champions League first-round match at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.
In an interview with Great Dyke News 24, FC Platinum spokesperson Chido Chizondo confirmed the development and commended the former coach for his professionalism and good working relations.
“l can confirm the departure of head coach Mr. Mapeza, we have agreed to mutually separate and FC Platinum is thankful to Mr. Mapeza for the level of professionalism and commitment that he has given to the team.
“As you know we have won back to back championships and we also managed to reach the group stage in the champion’s league, things that a lot of people see or believe in for a small team from Zvishavane,” she said.
Mapeza has been with the Zvishabane platinum miners for the past five years, leading them to back to back league titles.
