The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixture between Kwekwe United and Herentals College failed to kick off at Bata Stadium in Gweru after Kwekwe United players failed to show up for the match.
Despite coach Saul Chaminuka arriving at the venue on time, he reportedly left just before kickoff upon realising that none of his players had turned up. The team has been battling serious financial challenges, which are believed to have contributed to the no-show.
Match officials and the Herentals squad went onto the pitch as scheduled, but with Kwekwe United absent, the match was officially declared a 3-0 victory in favour of Herentals.
This latest development adds to growing concerns about the sustainability and competitiveness of some clubs in the countryās top-flight league.
