Police in Mwenezi have arrested a 47-year-old man, Farisai Zhou, in connection with the brutal murder of Alex Sibanda (35) in Madzvaruse Village, Mazetese, on February 11, 2025. Authorities have also launched a manhunt for three other suspects who remain at large.
According to police reports, Sibanda was allegedly attacked by Zhou and his accomplices—Simbarashe Zhou, Inzwaishe Majaya, and Isaac Majaya—following a dispute over lobola (bride price) negotiations. The suspects reportedly took turns assaulting the victim using logs and a catapult, inflicting fatal injuries.
Sibanda had been acting as an intermediary in the traditional marriage process and had been sent to deliver an initial bride price payment of USD 30 for Zhou’s daughter, who had eloped. The situation escalated into violence, leading to his death.
Mwenezi police have since arrested Zhou, while the other three suspects remain on the run. Authorities have urged members of the public with any information on their whereabouts to come forward.
