Mine workers at Indarama mine in Kwekwe have taken their employer to the courts seeking to have the mine placed under corporate rescue to pave way for payment of salaries in United States dollars.
Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Mineral Workers Union Secretary General Justice Chinhema told Great Dyke News 24 that the workersā application spells out two key issues.
āWe have done two applications one is to place Indarama on corporate rescue then the other issue is to the High Court to make a declaratory order where Indarama is seeking to pay outstanding salaries from 2013 to date in RTGS, meaning that they failed to pay employees in 2013. 268 dollars today is 3 USD,ā said Chinhema.
This is one of many mines that have been taken to the courts by employees over salary issues. Unions say the labour laws need to be reviewed to protect mine workers.
The Indarama Gold Mine is an underground mining operation near Kwekwe.
