In anticipation of the upcoming 2023 Nedbank Tour de Great Dyyke, organizers have launched an innovative online portal to facilitate registrations for the renowned three-day cycling event.
Cyclists from across the nation and beyond can now secure their participation virtually, all while gaining access to a wealth of information and updates about this remarkable 320-kilometre cycling extravaganza.
Set to commence on the 2nd of November 2023 at Zimplats, Selous, and concluding in Zvishavane on the 4th of November 2023, the event promises an exciting adventure for cycling enthusiasts. The newly introduced online portal, accessible at tourdegreatdyke.com, not only streamlines the registration process but also provides visitors with an array of engaging content, including videos and a captivating picture gallery from previous editions.
The Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke is a collaborative effort by YAFM in partnership with Nedbank and prominent platinum mining companies Unki, Mimosa, and Zimplats. The portal also features heartfelt testimonials from past participants, underscoring their passion for this remarkable tour.
One enthusiastic participant, Constance Kurira, shared, “I am a banker, wife, and a mother of 2 teens. I started cycling last year when I found myself buying a bike that was too small for my colleague. I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke as a Nedbanker at heart and can’t wait for this year’s Tour.”
Notably, Kurira successfully completed the demanding 320-kilometre challenge last year, a remarkable feat for someone relatively new to cycling.
Another dedicated cyclist, Portia Chitendere, expressed her excitement for the 2023 edition, emphasizing the growing participation of women in the event. She stated, “When I joined the Tour in 2016, I was the only female cyclist, however, more women have since joined with 20 female cyclists taking part in the 2022 Tour. I appreciate how the Tour values the participation of women and the youth and that has served as a point of inspiration. I am looking forward to the 2023 edition of the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyyke.”
Portia, residing in South Africa, has maintained an unbroken attendance record since the tour’s inception.
For the 82-year-old veteran cyclist, Wilson Dube, cycling is more than just a passion; it’s a lifelong commitment. He shared, “Cycling is my passion, and I have been doing it for the past 57 years. I have cycled in several competitions and have claimed many trophies. However, my greatest joy has been passing on the culture to the next generations. I am excited about the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyyke 2023.”
Remarkably, Wilson Dube successfully completed the grueling 320-kilometre Tour with ease last year and is all set to participate once again in this year’s edition.
The event director, Gabriel Choga, emphasized the importance of wellness, opportunity, and charity in the tour’s mission. He encouraged cyclists of all skill levels to register and be a part of the event, stating, “Cycling is a relatable and enjoyable wellness activity, and I am urging cyclists from far and wide to visit the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyyke portal and register to participate. Cycling novices are invited too.”
Choga highlighted that prioritizing good health and well-being is essential to unlock opportunities in the Great Dyyke.
Over 300 professional and amateur cyclists are expected to participate in the grueling three-day event, divided into three laps. The first lap is from Selous to Kwekwe, followed by Kwekwe to Shurugwi, and concluding with the final lap from Shurugwi to Zvishavane.
The Tour de Great Dyyke, initiated in 2016, aims to promote miner wellness and raise awareness about the investment opportunities in the 550-kilometer long, 12-kilometer wide Great Dyyke geological complex.
Nedbank takes the title sponsorship for the 2023 edition, with other valued partners including Cimas, Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, Econet Wireless, Nyaradzo, Simbisa Brands, Exide Batteries, Sterling Hotels, Dandemutande, Pote Holdings, and the Midlands State University.
