Zvishavane Town Council is reporting that infrastructure and houses in low lying areas and on river banks were massively affected by the Monday night rains which left some homes flooded.

In a telephone interview, Zvishavane Town Council Chairperson, Councillor Khulekani Ndlovu, said council has dispatched teams to work on ensuring that there is no flooding if the heavy rains come again.

“Some of the houses are built close to rivers and some have built in wetlands prone to flooding. This has many dangers. As the council we have deployed a loader to go and dig trenches to channel the water away from homes”, said Ndlovhu.

Ya FM radio station was one of the buildings affected by the storm. YaFM General Manager Mr Tawanda Gudhlangah told Great Dyke News 24 the radio station had felt the full impact of last night’s storm which left its studios underwater but work is now underway to ensure normalcy returns.

“It so happens that YaFm is the story, we are clearly feeling the impact of the rains that have pounded Zvishavane and other parts of the Midlands. We are busy working flat out making sure that we restore and resume bulletins as well as news stories and normal programming”, said Gudhlangah.
