Zimbabwean international Gerald Takwara has brought his two-year tenure in Saudi Arabia to a close, making a move to Iraq’s top-tier football league. Following the expiration of his contract with Saudi First Division side Ohod Club, Takwara has signed with Al-Minaa Club, a prominent team in the Iraqi Stars League.
Al-Minaa, based in the southern city of Basra, unveiled Takwara alongside four other new acquisitions. Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival, the club has noted that the Zimbabwean defender’s debut could be delayed due to ongoing visa processing, which may take some time.
Al-Minaa is one of Iraq’s most popular football clubs, though they had a challenging season last year, finishing 12th in the league standings. Takwara’s defensive prowess will be crucial as the team looks to improve its position in the upcoming season.
