In a distressing incident at the Under Care and Maintenance Fools Mine in the Hope fountain area, an illegal miner, identified as Nkosilathi Ngoma, is feared dead after an altercation related to ore-grabbing misdeeds. The unfortunate event happened on Tuesday night when Ngoma was allegedly thrown into a ventilator shaft at the mine, which plunges to a depth of 130 meters.
Thabani Masuku, the Manager of Fools Mine, reported that the scuffle erupted in a trench where illegal miners sought to take advantage of the mine’s non-operational status. The altercation, sparked by disputes over mining activities, resulted in Ngoma running through a ventilator and is now feared dead.
The mine promptly reported the incident to both its office and the police. Masuku revealed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder case, shedding light on the grim circumstances surrounding the miner’s disappearance.
As investigations continue, the police and the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development have confirmed receiving the report. Despite their efforts, retrieving Ngoma’s body from the deep shaft has proven challenging.
