The Zimbabwe Local Government Association (ZILGA) Chairman, Dr. Aaron Shamhu, has emphasized the significance of the ongoing local government training program provided by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, underlining its crucial role in aligning local authorities with the national Vision 2030 agenda.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shamhu expressed pride in the program, which he noted as being instrumental in instilling the Zimbabwean ideology among local government leaders. He stressed the importance of the initiative, which targets key figures including councilors, chancellor chairpersons, and chief executive officers (CEOs) across the country.

“This program is essential as it is helping to engrain the Zimbabwean ideology into the leadership of local authorities, differentiating it from other perspectives,” Dr. Shamhu stated. He further highlighted that following the launch of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) blueprint by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, it became imperative for all stakeholders to have a clear understanding of Vision 2030.

Dr. Shamhu emphasized the need for unity within the local government sector, noting that local authorities, led by council chairpersons, mayors, and CEOs, must work together as one family to fulfill the country’s requirements. He underscored the importance of cascading the ideology and knowledge gained from the training program to every corner of Zimbabwe, ensuring that all local government officials are well-informed and aligned with the national vision.

“We are very eager to learn and to cascade this knowledge to our fellow councilors as we execute our duties in our respective local authorities,” Dr. Shamhu remarked. He added that the training has provided local government leaders with a clear understanding of the expectations moving forward, enabling them to effectively contribute to the realization of Vision 2030.

The training program, which is part of a broader effort to prepare local government leaders for their roles in the implementation of national policies, is seen as a key step in ensuring the success of Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income country by 2030.
