Mimosa Mining Company’s Local Enterprise Development (LED) and Supplier Support Program (SSP) are transforming local businesses, with five suppliers already benefiting from the initiatives. Some of these suppliers have expanded their operations to regional markets, marking significant progress in Mimosa’s efforts to strengthen local industry.
Among the beneficiaries, Original Technology increased production by 300% after setting up a resin bolt manufacturing plant capable of producing 60,000 bolts per month. Their products now meet local demand and are exported to Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, and the DRC. Rytecraft established a transportation company, now hauling 1,700 tonnes of concentrates to South Africa monthly. Byword Motors, supported through a partnership with CBZ, opened a second vehicle service centre in Harare, expanding from their original base in Masvingo.
Boltrec set up a conveyor roller plant that produces 8,800 rollers per month, while Palawani diversified its operations by developing a conferencing facility at Palawani Dam. The company also ventured into fish farming, horticulture, and honey production, further contributing to its growth.
The LED program offers up to US$2 million per participant, with repayment terms of five years, supported by Mimosa’s internal revolving fund and bank facilities. Meanwhile, the SSP provides short-term loans of up to US$1 million to address cash flow gaps. Both programs prioritize disadvantaged groups, promoting economic empowerment.
