The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fire incident involving a Mandaza bus on December 15, 2024, at around 10:00 AM. The bus, which was traveling toward Harare with 58 passengers on board, caught fire at the 195-kilometre peg along the Harare-Masvingo road.

According to police reports, the fire broke out due to a mechanical fault, quickly engulfing the vehicle and reducing it to a shell. Remarkably, all 58 passengers managed to escape unscathed.

The ZRP commended the swift action of the passengers and driver, which ensured no injuries were recorded during the incident. Authorities have urged bus operators to prioritize regular mechanical inspections to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. Meanwhile, the ZRP has reiterated the importance of safety protocols for public transport operators, especially during the festive season when travel increases.
