The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in a mine shaft at Zeplin Mine in Mvuma, following a report filed on February 11, 2025. The body, believed to be that of an unidentified male adult, was found by Maxwell Mutakura, a 27-year-old employee at the mine.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred around 2:00 PM when Mutakura, who was tasked with pumping water from a 30-metre-deep shaft, descended into the shaft to inspect the water level.
Mutakura made the grim discovery of a human body submerged halfway, with the lower half visible above the waterline. The mine had not conducted any operations in the shaft since the onset of the rainy season.
Upon discovering the body, Mutakura immediately alerted the authorities. The police arrived promptly, and the body was recovered and transported to Mvuma Hospital, where it is currently awaiting a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are urging members of the public who may be missing a relative to come forward and assist in identifying the deceased.
