Delcat Idengo, a popular Congolese musician known for his anti-government and anti-rebel songs, was found dead on Thursday in Goma, Eastern DRC. His body, partially covered in blood, was discovered in the Kilijiwe area. Reports suggest he may have been shot.

Idengo, whose recent song Bunduki condemned rebel occupation in Goma, had escaped from prison during the M23 militants’ seizure of the city. The attack on Idengo comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with the M23 advancing towards Bukavu.

The killing has sparked protests in Beni, his birthplace, with demands for justice. Government officials, including spokesperson Patrick Muyaya, condemned the murder, blaming the M23, while the rebels pointed the finger at government-aligned forces.

Idengo, who faced legal troubles for his music, was a vocal critic of both the government and rebels. His death adds to the rising death toll in the conflict, which has displaced 700,000 people.
