The Zimbabwe Republic Police has reported two tragic road traffic accidents resulting in fatalities and injuries.
The first incident occurred early on 31st October 2024, at approximately 5:10 AM, along the Harare-Bulawayo Road, near the Kuwadzana 7 turnoff at the traffic-controlled intersection of First Street and Bulawayo Road. A Toyota Hiace Kombi, carrying an undetermined number of passengers, collided with a fuel tanker that was not transporting any passengers. Preliminary investigations indicate that the kombi turned right onto Bulawayo Road directly in front of the oncoming fuel tanker, resulting in the crash.
Tragically, five individuals lost their lives, while six others sustained injuries. The deceased have been transported to the Sally Mugabe Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, and the identities of the victims remain undisclosed as their next of kin have yet to be notified.
In a separate incident on 30th October 2024, at around 3:30 PM, a Toyota Land Cruiser veered off the road at the 225-kilometre peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road. The vehicle overturned but landed on its wheels, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to five others. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Mvuma Hospital mortuary for post-mortem analysis, while four injured victims were admitted to the same facility. One individual was referred to a hospital in Harare for more advanced medical treatment.
