In a dynamic showcase of youthful prowess, over 100 aspiring football talents descended upon Gresham Grounds in Zvishavane over the weekend for the FC Platinum junior development trials. Coach Moses Mwafulira, revealed that the trials boasted an impressive turnout, with nearly 150 players showcasing their skills. He said a select few have already earned the coveted opportunity to further train with the esteemed development setup in the coming weeks.
The Zvishavane-based football powerhouse is rapidly solidifying its stature in the national football landscape, strategically investing in upcoming talents. With Norman Mapeza at the helm as the Head Coach, FC Platinum, four-time Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Champions, has earned acclaim for providing opportunities to players under the age of 23.
The likes of former Young Warriors midfielder Tatenda Dzumbunu serve as a testament to the club’s commitment to nurturing young talent. In the 2021/2022 season, Mapeza handed game time to emerging stars such as Kelvin Mangiza (21), Oscar Bhebhe (19), Hagiazo Magaya (22), Panashe Mutimbanyoka, and the May 2022 Player of the Month, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya (20).
As the final whistle blew on the weekend trials, the anticipation lingers to see which of these promising wonderkids will grace the hallowed turf of Mandava Stadium in the near future, carrying the torch for FC Platinum’s legacy in Zimbabwean football.
