In a recent interview on Ya FM’s Green Mining Show, Takunda Hove, the Managing Director of Ateg Resources, emphasized the crucial role of proper procedures and guidelines in the construction and maintenance of Tailing Storage Facilities (TSFs) in the Great Dyke.
Hove’s comments come as a reminder to miners in the region about the potential environmental impacts of poorly managed TSFs.
Tailing Storage Facilities (TSFs) are structures used in mining operations to store the waste materials known as tailings. Tailings are the byproducts of the mining process, consisting of crushed rock, water, and chemicals used in mineral extraction. TSFs are designed to contain and store these tailings in a controlled manner.
