The call for entries for the 10th edition of the Mining Media Award has attracted a remarkable response, with a large number of journalists submitting their work in the premier mining awards which are supported by the government and the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe.

In an interview with Great Dyke News 24, Minex Public Relations and Communications Executives, Moses Charedzera said the response has been extremely encouraging.

“We have recorded overwhelming response by journalists who have submitted entries in the Mining Media Awards,

“As of the close of entries last Friday we had sixty-eight entries compared to thirty-two entries last year which is quite a big jump.

While we have exceeded our target of sixty entries, we have however noted that some journalists are still phoning and enquiring about the awards. To give those who have not submitted a chance, we have thought it prudent to extend the close of entries to this Friday the 20th of October 2023.”

In a bid to honor the crucial role played by journalists in shaping public perception and promoting transparency within the mining sector, the Mining Media Award have become a highly anticipated event within the industry. Charedzera encouraged journalists to submit in other categories where the numbers are comparably lower.

“We have received overwhelming entries in categories such lithium, small scale mining and CSR and we would encourage journalists to consider other categories to establish a balance between the categories. We want all categories to be as competetive as possible,” he said.

The submitted entries cover a wide range of topics, including environmental impact assessments, CSR initiatives, technological advancements and labour issues.

Apart from honouring Journalists, this year’s awards will also honour Public Relations and Communication Practitioners who have made a mark through impactful and meaningful engagement with the media fraternity.

Awards are up for grabs in the Platinum, Gold, Diamond, Lithium, Coal and Gas, Small Scale and Artisanal Miners, CSR and Chrome categories. The best entries in each category will qualify for the big prize, the Overall Mining Reporter of the Year.
