Positive Trends: Mberengwa District Reports Reduction in Cholera Cases and Intensifies Hygiene Advocacy Efforts

Mberengwa District is experiencing a notable reduction in cholera cases, according to Vafias Hlavati, the head of its civil protection unit.


Speaking to Great Dyke News, Hlavati reported a total of 126 cholera cases since the outbreak last year, with 74 cases originating from Mberengwa centre.

Presently, the district is closely monitoring nine critical cases, and three cholera-related deaths have been recorded, primarily affecting women. Hlavati highlighted collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Health and Child Care, along with various institutions such as education and religious bodies, to promote hygiene practices.

Stressing the importance of sanitation, he discouraged the operation of canteens and small shops lacking proper sanitation, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to enforcing these measures and discouraging mass gatherings.
