The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has issued a strong appeal to the public to avoid keeping large sums of money at home and instead utilize banking services following two separate armed robbery incidents in Kwekwe. The police are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend suspects involved in these recent crimes.
Speaking to Great Dyke News ZRP Midlands spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said in the early hours of September 8th, 2024, at around 1:00 AM, five armed men targeted the Petrol Trade Service Station in Kwekwe.
He said security guards Enos Nyarenda (65) and Johnson Maura (56) were on duty when the attackers, armed with a pistol, manhandled Maura and overpowered the guards. The assailants tied up Nyarenda and Maura before raiding the office area. They blasted an immovable safe, stealing $799 and various groceries, including a movable safe from the station kiosk. The total value of the stolen items amounted to $1,081.
Inspector Mahoko said in a separate incident on September 7, 2024, three men with machetes broke into the home of Kudakwashe Chuchu (26) in Mbizo 4, Kwekwe.
The suspects, dressed in black monkey hats and sunglasses, demanded cash from Chuchu, who complied by handing over $730 from his wardrobe. The robbers fled the scene, leaving the victim unharmed but shaken.
The ZRP is actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspects involved in these robberies.
