Farmers in Runde Rural District Council Ward 18 have launched a groundbreaking horticulture crops project, aimed at improving food security and promoting sustainable agriculture. The initiative, which utilizes boreholes for irrigation.
Speaking to Great Dyke News, Arda Deputy Director Zivanai Matore said the project addresses the challenges posed by unreliable rainy seasons by ensuring a steady water supply for year-round farming.
“We can no longer rely solely on the rainy season,” said Matore Zivanai. “This project reflects our community’s resilience and determination to succeed despite changing conditions.”
Zvishavane-Runde constituency Member of Parliament Fred Gandiwa Moyo praised the farmers’ innovation, calling the initiative a “game-changer” for local agriculture.
The project is expected to boost crop yields, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities for the community.
