The Minister of Finance, Professor Mthuli Ncube, has revealed a $25.4 million budget for the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium, aimed at improving infrastructure, security, and access control.
The announcement was made during a parliamentary session where the minister outlined the financial allocations needed for the stadium’s upgrade.
Of the total budget, $17.5 million is earmarked for infrastructure refurbishment, including security systems such as CCTV, ticketing, and access control equipment. The remaining $7.9 million is allocated for fencing, ground works, and other ancillary developments. To date, $6.75 million has been contracted, but only $3.8 million has been certified and paid.
Minister Ncube emphasized the importance of a comprehensive implementation plan, citing concerns over the slow pace of the works.
He stated that Treasury had requested a detailed procurement and cash flow plan from the responsible ministry to ensure a steady execution of the remaining works.
