The President of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF), Henrietta Rushwaya, has called on the government to take stronger measures to protect local miners from exploitation by foreign investors in the mining sector.
Speaking at the organization’s strategy meeting in Harare, Rushwaya expressed concern over the growing influence of foreign investors who, according to her, have sometimes treated local miners unfairly.
In her address to the delegates, Rushwaya highlighted the need for a more balanced approach to foreign investment, ensuring that local players benefit equitably from the country’s vast mineral resources. She stressed that while foreign investment is crucial for the sector’s development, it should not come at the expense of local miners.
Her remarks reflect growing concerns among local mining communities who feel sidelined in the face of increasing foreign investment in the sector.
